Our community is the only inhabited Island in the City of Portland. There is a passion once you arrive and get the flavor of what Hayden Island is all about. Plenty of water activities, floating island restaurants, floating homes, condos, beautiful detached homes in gated communities, mobile home parks and much more.

We are basically an island able to enjoy a ”lifestyle” rare to Portland. We are able to do all kinds of shopping without leaving Hayden Island. However, the community is missing a neighborhood grocery store, and that is a heart-breaking problem to many. Safeway came to Hayden Island in 1962 and did very well until they were purchased by a private equity firm in 2018 and closed. The building was netiher sold nor leased, and to this day it sits empty. We are asking for community support, as well as help from folks who feel that they would support a new grocery store coming to Hayden Island.

We do not use the word “neighborhood” lightly, we want a store you’ll be proud to shop in, and a store that truly wants to be a part of Hayden Island's community.
